Suncreens: How to Protect Your Skin

When it comes to the sun the best offense is a good defense. Follow these three steps to ensure that you are protecting your skin

  • Avoid the sun during peak hours. Generally, this is between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. — regardless of season. These are prime hours for exposure to skin-damaging ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun, even on overcast days.
  • Wear protective clothing.  Long sleeves, wide brimmed hat, and sunglasses.
  • Use sunscreen. Liberal use of sunscreen is a key part of any program to protect yourself from the sun. Apply every day even if it is overcast. DONT FORGET TO REAPPLY.

The Sunscreens We Love:

Laroche Possay Anthelios SPF40 Sunscreen Cream: The key ingredient in this product is Mexoryl SX, this fragrance-free lotion protects longer than other broad-spectrum sunscreens that break down in the sun. The formula is also fast-absorbing, which allows you to put makeup on top without a heavy feel.

Coola Face SPF 30 Matte Finish  We love this brand because they offer a “certified organic” and matte sunscreen.  The product will naturally shield and nourish skin everyday with this antioxidant-infused, mineral matte SPF 30 sunscreen. Offering broad-spectrum UVA/UVB plus environmental protection, this light, natural cucumber scented formula gives skin an immediate line-smoothing finish.

Eminence Organics Sun Defense Minerals Easy to use, apply and carry anywhere, these natural minerals provide water-resistant SPF 30 sun protection to women and men alike. Hypoallergenic, non-clogging and excellent to use post-treatment, especially on red or blotchy skin. Darker shades can be used as a bronzer.

If You Buy Only One Makeup Pallet…

Then it has to be Urban Decay Smoked. With this one pallet you can go from day to night in an instant. Zipped inside this sleek, mirrored case are ten decadent shades (five are exclusive), including neutral mattes and shimmering jewel tones for a range of smoky looks. For a elegant day look stick to the neutral mattes and when you are ready to hit the town pull out the pallet and add some smouldering smokiness. You can create traditional grey/black smokey eyes or add a touch of color with the beautiful jewel tones. Along with the 10 shades the pallet includes a black matte pencil and travel sized primer. The best part is that there  is a beautifully illustrated, step-by-step guide to 12 smoky eye looks, written by Urban Decay founder Wende Zomnir included in the package. Perfect for those shadow newbies out there.

Eyes on the Prize.

Last week we were wow’d by olympic nail art. This week a Brazilian gymnast takes her patriotism to an original new level. Daniele Hypolito rocks some seriously awesome eye shadow in the colors of her flag while competing in the qualifying rounds.
